Sarah 101

Have you ever caught the show Sarah 101 on HGTV?  If not, I highly recommend watching this show.  Sarah Richardson works alongside designer Tommy Smythe to reinvent tired spaces into something spectacular!  Not to mention the opinions and banter between the two of them can be hilarious.  This design duo does an excellent job of salvaging old furniture and maximizing every inch of space.  The show is a great example of how to take something basic and turn it into something special.
In this episode, she worked with a recent college graduate to turn her small 350 sq ft condo into a more functional "adult space".  She created a beautiful french-inspired oasis and made the room feel much larger after the transformation.  To view more photos and check out a recap of the episode here!  Also you can visit Sarah's website.  She has a great portfolio and there's no shortage of helpful info.

ShaGreen Me.....

sha-green
  Noun
 1.  Sharkskin used as a deorative material or, for its natural rough surface of pointed scales, as an abrasive
 2.  A kind of untanned leather with a rough granulated surface

I just love a shagreen-ed item.  Some form or shape of it is on my wish list for one day (fingers crossed).  Do you love it as much as I do?  Which item would you pick?

1. Shagreen lamps - (this company is AWESOME)
2. Shagreen boxes
3. Faux shagreen nesting tables
4. Shagreen side table
5. iphone covers
6. Shagreen wallcovering - It would be breathtaking in a powder bath applied in 6 x 6 inch squares.  Phillip Jeffries makes a vinyl shagreen version here, if you want to lower your budget.

Ginnifer's Chic Bungalow

Did you see the feature in January's Elle on actress Ginnifer Goodwin's Hollywood Hills bungalow? I may be biased (because I love her), but I thought her cozy, yet chic spaces were just lovely. This Memphis native has an eye for combining antiques and eclectic Southern style into this beautiful L.A. bachelorette pad. She also has an owl collection (see one below on the fireplace)...I am thinking we are kindred spirits.

I love the rug in the kitchen, as well as the large window seat! Don't you want to have a cup of coffee with her in this space??

Below: Top photo is of Ginnifer's bright yellow kitchen table and the bottom photo is just a glimpse of her elaborate book collection.

Below: friends stop over for game night; bottom left is her quaint office; bottom right is the welcoming entry way

Sectionals

Something about a sectional just makes me want to cozy up and watch a good movie!  In my opinion you either love them or hate them.  I think most people consider them to be best in a den or casual area, but as you can see, they can also be in a more formal living space as well.  I'm loving the brown and gold velvet ones!  Now tell me after seeing these rooms....who doesn't want a sectional?

Remember this feature from Courtney Cox's home?  It was featured on nearly every blog!

Sarah Richardson, from HGTV designed this space.

Mix Julep

Today, I'm so excited to introduce you to a new clothing line right out of Savannah. Mix Julep!

Mix Julep is a contemporary women's line founded by my friend (and fellow Alabama grad) Kathryn Hayes. I love that the collection is a reflection of Kathryn's style with a nod to her coastal roots. Mix Julep is debuting Spring 2013, so all dresses are currently available for pre-order. What's different about Mix Julep, you ask? All of their dresses are reversible, so you can change your look without investing in another piece. Brilliant!

In their words...
"Mix Julep by Kathryn Hayes collection is defined by the idea that one should get more out of a luxurious garment. Designer Kathryn Hayes has created a line of interchangeable dresses that create two looks by simply flipping the dress. Mix Julep will also allow you to have more room in your closet and suitcase while saving time and money."

"Born out of Kathryn’s love of fashion and desire to create something new in the high end contemporary clothing market, Mix Julep thrives upon the integration of exquisite color, pattern, quality and attention to detail in every garment. Her collection goes from day to night through the use of casual cotton fabrics combined with simplistic yet playful designs to create the perfect go to dress for any occasion."

Renovation Update!

Remember this post on the house we are renovating here in Mobile? Well, if you don't take a look back. I have a few pictures of the progress that I would like to share today. We have been working hard these past few months and I think we have some really great ideas. As always with a renovation, the plans have changed 10 plus times, but that's what makes it fun, right?! We started with what will be the master suite and have now moved over to what will be a huge kitchen with tons of natural light. Both spaces overlook the backyard and pool. Now that the holidays are over, I will be updating you with our progress more often. I hope you enjoy!!

This is what used to be the pool house. We have connected it to the house and are turning it into a Master Suite.

Driveway view of the old pool house.

The ceilings will be vaulted throughout the master space.

We connected the Master Suite to the house with a hallway full of windows that overlooks the pool.

This is an up close view of the hallway. The roof is "Weathered Wood", which I love.

A view looking into the bathroom and closet from the master bedroom. The hallway to the rest of the house is on the right.

This is the back of the house before we opened it up and expanded the kitchen.
