Contemporary Point of View

My love for modern and contemporary architecture is no secret. I would love to live in a house like any of these below. Only problem...I live in Alabama and this style does not so much fit in. So, maybe, hopefully one day I will be lucky enough to get my hands on one of the few modern/contemporary homes there are here or even build my own! Maybe one day...gosh I would love it!!

Wake Up Call

William and I are coffee junkies. Yes, it's an addiction. And like most people, we require a cup of coffee to start our day. In fact, it's my motivation to get out of bed most mornings.

Because I live in Savannah...and it's July...and it's a gazillion degrees outside (AND inside for that matter - We live in a 1925 Tudor in Ardsley Park. Savannahians, you understand.), staying cool is always a hassle. Well, staying cool and steaming hot morning coffee do not go hand in hand. I figured iced coffee was the solution to my predicament, and so I began my search.

I first tried adding ice to a hot cup of coffee. Fail.
I changed to refrigerating/freezing a freshly brewed pot of coffee. Fail.

Pioneer Woman had a similar struggle and recommended I try this method. I'm sure it's fantastic, but I don't have room in my fridge to store a 12 quart container.

My friend Courtney found a cold brewing system called the Toddy. Have you ever tried it? The Toddy can be purchased here. The idea of a cold brew sounds promising. I would love to know if anyone has used the Toddy!

I was in Bed Bath and Beyond last week, when I came across this.

The perfect solution! These discs work in my Tassimo coffee maker. Iced coffee? Check. Sweet and creamy? Check. I couldn't wait to try it.

Well, let me tell you. It's just as good as it looks. Rich, creamy, and a refreshing alternative to a hot cup of joe. If you're interested in a single-serve coffee maker, I highly recommend buying one. Both Tassimo and Kuerig are outstanding.

Happy Friday!

Fall Makeup Frenzy

As summer comes to an end and fall begins, we start to see all the new fashion and MAKEUP trends! It is always fun to change up your look, so here are some great ideas to change up your makeup for fall.

1) Smoky Metallic Eyes- use charcoal shadows to create the smoky eye and brush over a shimmer shadow to create this look.
2. Wine Red Lips- make an impact with a dark burgundy lip- keep the rest of your makeup simple to complete this look.

3. Gold Liner- for a more subtle eye than the smoky metallic, go for gold! Use either gold shadow or gold liner to make your eyes pop!

4. Floral Matte Lipstick- seasons past have always emphasized a glossy lip but a great, fresh alternative is a matte lip- delicate shades of pink and peach make the lips look soft, while reds and corals give it some ooopmf.

5. Monochrome Eyes and Lips- the great thing about makeup trends is there are many options, so for a more simple look, go with monochrome eyes and lips! With a bold outfit, this look is spot on.

All images and the trend list from http://www.allure.com/.

Last, I had to share my new favorite Bobbi Brown eye shadows for the fall! As Leah Shea says, it is all in the details and I cannot get enough of these beautiful tortoise shell cases and brushes-not to mention the shadows are gaw-geous!

This compact comes in two different palettes, sand and bronze, and retail for $60 each. Images via http://www.bobbibrowncosmetics.com. If you order online, they have two FREE SHIPPING promos going on now- one is FREE SHIPPING on any order using GLOSS77 if you order by midnight on 7.29.11 and the other is FREE SHIPPING on orders over $65 (no expiration or code).

Outerwear options

OK....OK.....OK...... I know it is 90 degrees, actually closer to 100, where I live. But, I cannot get my mind off these eye-catching coats / jackets for fall. I am loving everyone of them. Some are more resourceful than the others, but I would take anyone of them. Below are the prices and sources so feel free to make a purchase. I don't want to be the only human in Alabama wearing a jacket in July.

1. Express - $88.50
2. asos.com - $86.20 (more colors available)
3. piperlime.com - $49.99
4. asos.com - $129.29

Diet Book Review

Ok so I know it's edging the end of summer but it's never too late to start eating better to shed some lbs or just to be more healthy. I picked up this book a couple of months ago and I love it. It makes me very more aware of how many calories are in every food. Some of you may say you know all the calories you intake and do not need a lesson on it. But I want to tell you a few cool things this book has to offer.

1. It starts off by telling you how many 400 calorie meals a day you should have based on your activity

2. Tells you what calories are in beverages

3. So you're having the salad bar ....how many calories?

4. The bar

5. The movies: for example my friend Erin and I went last night ( to see Harry Potter-so good!) and each got a bag of popcorn and shared some peanut M&M's, no sodas we were good and had water. Granted we ate this instead of dinner so we each had about 500 calories. Not too bad for the theater only 100 over.

6. Each chapter tells you examples of what to eat for every meal and snack meal, even desserts. This book is amazing it doesn't mean you have to cut out sweets just know when enough is enough!

7. Lunch examples

8. Having a salad at a restaurant say.... Atlanta Bread, Chick fil A, or Panera it tells you how many calories are involved. This is where it would be tricky normally because when you eat out, you do not always know how calories you are intaking but you can now....

The steak one is for Leah, I believe she eats it every Saturday night. I received a call this past Saturday: I'm having steak what to have with it and what dessert should I make? I should have referenced this book first but I believe she did some vegetables so she would have been within her 400 calorie mark.

Enjoy! I purchased mine at Barnes & Noble...get yours today!

FLOR

FLOR: "an innovative system of carpet squares that you assemble to create custom rugs, runners or wall-to-wall designs of any shape or size."

I got a new FLOR catalog in the mail a few days ago and really enjoyed looking through it. First of all, their concept is so neat. Second of all, whoever does the design work for their photo shoots deserves a star! Really, their catalog is so pretty! I don't own a FLOR rug, but I kind of want one. I love the bright colors on this first composition below.
